Basel Fall Fair: A very special tradition

Example of Mässmegge

Carrousel

Every year since 542 (!) years, Basel welcomes its Fall Fair (or as we say in Basel: d'Herbschtmäss) on the last Saturday in October. It's the longest running fall fair in all of Europe. The Fair lasts two weeks and is visited by over one million people from other parts of Switzerland and from all over Europe. It takes place on seven different places and one exhibition hall in the inner-city. There is a lot to see and experience at the Basel Fall Fair: rides, a giant wheel (it really is giant!), food stands, sweetmeat shops with delicious things to eat like Magenbrot, Basler Läckerli, Mässmegge, Rahmdääfeli (if you don't know what that is: come to Basel and find out! :-)) and other stands with many different items to buy. It really is a very nice event to experience with family and friends.
